What to Expect on the Day of a Deep Plane Facelift Surgery

Dr. Antell performs all his deep-plane facelifts at his practice in New York City. When you arrive, you will check in with our welcome staff and review your treatment plan with Dr. Antell. You can ask any questions you have to help ease any anxiety or concerns.

To begin your surgery, local anesthesia will be administered. When appropriate, sedation, also known as twilight anesthesia, may also be used to enhance your comfort. Dr. Antell will discuss whether sedation is indicated for your procedure during your consultation. Once you are comfortable, Dr. Antell will make incisions along the hairline and around your ears, so they heal discreetly. Dr. Antell will continue the procedure by releasing the underlying facial ligaments, elevating the platysma muscle, and reshaping and repositioning the connective tissue. He will complete the procedure by closing the incisions with sutures and placing any necessary drains. The entire procedure will take about 3-6 hours, depending on the extent of the surgery.

Deep Plane Facelift Recovery

Your Guide to Post-Deep Plane Facelift Care

Recovery after a deep plane facelift usually takes about 10-14 days. During this period, you will need to fully prioritize rest. Don’t rush into any activities, especially strenuous activities like exercise, lifting, and swimming. You can go on light walks within the first couple of days to promote blood circulation. However, strenuous exercise should generally be delayed for at least 21 days or until Dr. Antell clears you to resume it, as recovery varies from patient to patient.

Medication for discomfort will be prescribed to help you better tolerate the swelling, tightness, and overall snug feeling. Sleep on your back with your head slightly elevated and apply cold compresses to the cheeks to minimize swelling.

You can return to most regular activities within 7-10 days. Make sure to attend all follow-up appointments at Dr. Antell’s office in New York City.
